Brew Guide

Great coffee starts with the right technique. Here's how to get the best out of every Venro roast, whichever method you brew with.

Espresso

Best for: 6 Bean Blend, African Espresso, Bali Blue

Grind: Fine  |  Ratio: 1:2 (18g coffee : 36g espresso)  |  Temp: 93°C / 200°F  |  Time: 25–30 seconds

  1. Grind fine — about the texture of table salt.
  2. Dose 18g into your portafilter and tamp evenly with firm, level pressure.
  3. Pull your shot. Aim for 25–30 seconds for a 36g yield.
  4. A good shot pours golden with a rich crema. Adjust grind finer if it runs fast, coarser if it chokes.

Pour-Over

Best for: Bali Blue, African Kahawa Blend, Ethiopian Natural, Kenya

Grind: Medium-fine  |  Ratio: 1:15 (15g coffee : 225ml water)  |  Temp: 93°C / 200°F  |  Time: 3–4 minutes

  1. Rinse your filter with hot water and discard the rinse water.
  2. Add 15g of medium-fine ground coffee.
  3. Start your timer. Pour 30ml of water to bloom for 30 seconds — this releases CO2 and improves extraction.
  4. Continue pouring in slow, steady circles until you reach 225ml. Total brew time: 3–4 minutes.

French Press

Best for: 6 Bean Blend, Asian Plateau Blend, Cowboy Blend

Grind: Coarse  |  Ratio: 1:15 (30g coffee : 450ml water)  |  Temp: 93°C / 200°F  |  Time: 4 minutes

  1. Add coarsely ground coffee to your French press.
  2. Pour hot water over grounds and stir gently.
  3. Place the lid on (plunger up) and steep for 4 minutes.
  4. Press the plunger down slowly and pour immediately. Don't let it sit — it'll over-extract.

Moka Pot

Best for: African Espresso, 6 Bean Blend, Italian Roast

Grind: Medium-fine  |  Ratio: Fill basket level  |  Temp: Low-medium heat  |  Time: 5–7 minutes

  1. Fill the bottom chamber with hot water to just below the valve.
  2. Fill the filter basket with ground coffee — level it off, don't tamp.
  3. Assemble the pot and place on low-medium heat with the lid open.
  4. Remove from heat when you hear a gurgling sound. Pour immediately.

Cold Brew

Best for: Asian Plateau Blend, Cold Brew Dark Roast, 6 Bean Blend

Grind: Coarse  |  Ratio: 1:8 (60g coffee : 480ml cold water)  |  Temp: Cold / Room temp  |  Time: 12–18 hours

  1. Combine coarsely ground coffee and cold water in a jar or pitcher.
  2. Stir to make sure all grounds are saturated.
  3. Cover and steep in the fridge for 12–18 hours.
  4. Strain through a fine mesh or cheesecloth. Serve over ice. Keeps refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Drip Coffee Maker

Best for: Breakfast Blend, House Blend, Gourmet Donut Shop

Grind: Medium  |  Ratio: 1:17 (1 tbsp per 180ml water)  |  Temp: Set by machine  |  Time: 5–8 minutes

  1. Use a medium grind — like coarse sand.
  2. Use filtered water if possible for the cleanest flavor.
  3. Brew immediately and pour within 30 minutes. Coffee left on a warming plate goes stale fast.

Single Serve Capsules

Best for: 12-Pack and 60-Pack Capsules, Bali Coffee Pods, Mexico and Peru Pods

Compatible with: Nespresso Original Line machines

  1. Insert capsule and select your preferred cup size.
  2. For a stronger cup, choose the smaller size setting.
  3. For best results, run a water-only cycle to preheat the machine before brewing.
