5 Ways to Brew
a Better Cup
From French press to pour-over — your complete guide to unlocking every flavor in your Venro beans.
The beans matter — but so does how you brew them. Even the finest single-origin coffee can fall flat with the wrong technique. Here are five proven brewing methods, each with step-by-step instructions so you can find your perfect cup.
French Press
Full-bodied, rich, and forgiving. The French press extracts oils that paper filters trap, giving you a heavier, more textured cup — perfect for our Signature Blends.
- Add coarsely ground coffee to your press (1g coffee per 15ml water).
- Pour hot water over the grounds, filling to about 1 inch below the top.
- Stir gently, place the lid on, and steep for 4 minutes.
- Press the plunger down slowly and steadily — no forcing.
- Pour immediately so it doesn't over-extract.
Pour-Over
Clean, bright, and nuanced. Pour-over is the best way to experience the floral and fruity notes in our Single Origin coffees from Ethiopia and Colombia.
- Rinse your paper filter with hot water to remove papery taste — discard the rinse water.
- Add medium-fine ground coffee and level the bed.
- Start your timer. Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds (2× coffee weight). Wait 30 seconds — this is the bloom.
- Continue pouring in slow, concentric circles every 30–45 seconds until you reach your target weight.
- Let it drip fully, then enjoy immediately.
AeroPress
Fast, forgiving, and endlessly versatile. The AeroPress makes a concentrated, espresso-style brew that's incredibly smooth — virtually no bitterness.
- Place a filter in the cap, rinse it, and lock the cap onto the chamber.
- Set the AeroPress on your mug (inverted or standard — both work).
- Add ground coffee, then pour hot water to fill the chamber.
- Stir for 10 seconds, then insert the plunger.
- After 90 seconds total, press down slowly and steadily for 20–30 seconds.
Cold Brew
Smooth, low-acid, and naturally sweet. Cold brew is coffee at its most approachable — perfect for hot days and our Flavored Roasts.
- Combine extra-coarse ground coffee with cold or room-temperature water in a jar or pitcher.
- Stir to make sure all grounds are saturated.
- Cover and refrigerate for 12–24 hours. Longer = stronger and smoother.
- Strain through a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter.
- Serve over ice; dilute with water or milk to taste.
Moka Pot
Bold, intense, and deeply satisfying. The stovetop espresso maker produces a rich, concentrated brew close to true espresso — ideal for our dark Signature Blends.
- Fill the bottom chamber with hot water up to the safety valve — never above it.
- Fill the filter basket with fine-medium ground coffee, level it off. Don't tamp.
- Assemble the Moka pot and place on medium-low heat.
- Leave the lid open and watch. When coffee starts flowing, reduce heat to low.
- Remove from heat the moment you hear a hissing/gurgling sound — that's over-extraction starting.
Starting points — adjust to taste. More coffee = stronger. More water = lighter.
