a Better Cup

From French press to pour-over — your complete guide to unlocking every flavor in your Venro beans.

The beans matter — but so does how you brew them. Even the finest single-origin coffee can fall flat with the wrong technique. Here are five proven brewing methods, each with step-by-step instructions so you can find your perfect cup.

01

French Press

Beginner 4 min

Full-bodied, rich, and forgiving. The French press extracts oils that paper filters trap, giving you a heavier, more textured cup — perfect for our Signature Blends.

GrindCoarse
Ratio1:15
Temp200°F / 93°C
Brew Time4 min
  1. Add coarsely ground coffee to your press (1g coffee per 15ml water).
  2. Pour hot water over the grounds, filling to about 1 inch below the top.
  3. Stir gently, place the lid on, and steep for 4 minutes.
  4. Press the plunger down slowly and steadily — no forcing.
  5. Pour immediately so it doesn't over-extract.
Pro tip: Warm your French press with hot water before brewing — it keeps your coffee hot longer and helps even extraction.
02

Pour-Over

Intermediate 5–6 min

Clean, bright, and nuanced. Pour-over is the best way to experience the floral and fruity notes in our Single Origin coffees from Ethiopia and Colombia.

GrindMedium-Fine
Ratio1:16
Temp205°F / 96°C
Brew Time3–4 min
  1. Rinse your paper filter with hot water to remove papery taste — discard the rinse water.
  2. Add medium-fine ground coffee and level the bed.
  3. Start your timer. Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds (2× coffee weight). Wait 30 seconds — this is the bloom.
  4. Continue pouring in slow, concentric circles every 30–45 seconds until you reach your target weight.
  5. Let it drip fully, then enjoy immediately.
Pro tip: The bloom is the most important step. Fresh coffee releases CO₂ — skip it and your water won't extract evenly.
03

AeroPress

Intermediate 2–3 min

Fast, forgiving, and endlessly versatile. The AeroPress makes a concentrated, espresso-style brew that's incredibly smooth — virtually no bitterness.

GrindMedium-Fine
Ratio1:12
Temp185°F / 85°C
Brew Time90 sec
  1. Place a filter in the cap, rinse it, and lock the cap onto the chamber.
  2. Set the AeroPress on your mug (inverted or standard — both work).
  3. Add ground coffee, then pour hot water to fill the chamber.
  4. Stir for 10 seconds, then insert the plunger.
  5. After 90 seconds total, press down slowly and steadily for 20–30 seconds.
Pro tip: Lower water temp (185°F vs 205°F) makes the AeroPress taste sweeter and less bitter — great for darker roasts.
04

Cold Brew

Easy 12–24 hrs

Smooth, low-acid, and naturally sweet. Cold brew is coffee at its most approachable — perfect for hot days and our Flavored Roasts.

GrindExtra Coarse
Ratio1:8
TempCold / Room
Brew Time12–24 hrs
  1. Combine extra-coarse ground coffee with cold or room-temperature water in a jar or pitcher.
  2. Stir to make sure all grounds are saturated.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 12–24 hours. Longer = stronger and smoother.
  4. Strain through a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter.
  5. Serve over ice; dilute with water or milk to taste.
Pro tip: Cold brew concentrate keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Make a big batch and you're set for the week.
05

Moka Pot

Advanced 5–7 min

Bold, intense, and deeply satisfying. The stovetop espresso maker produces a rich, concentrated brew close to true espresso — ideal for our dark Signature Blends.

GrindFine-Medium
RatioFill basket
TempPre-heated
Brew Time5–7 min
  1. Fill the bottom chamber with hot water up to the safety valve — never above it.
  2. Fill the filter basket with fine-medium ground coffee, level it off. Don't tamp.
  3. Assemble the Moka pot and place on medium-low heat.
  4. Leave the lid open and watch. When coffee starts flowing, reduce heat to low.
  5. Remove from heat the moment you hear a hissing/gurgling sound — that's over-extraction starting.
Pro tip: Pre-heating your water dramatically reduces bitterness — the grounds spend less time on heat before extraction begins.

Starting points — adjust to taste. More coffee = stronger. More water = lighter.

4 Rules That Improve Every Brew

⚖️
Use a scale, not a scoop Scoops vary wildly by grind size. A kitchen scale makes your brew repeatable every time.
🌡️
Never use boiling water 100°C scorches the grounds and creates harsh bitterness. Target 90–96°C instead.
⏱️
Grind right before you brew Coffee goes stale within minutes of grinding. Even a basic burr grinder makes a noticeable difference.
💧
Use filtered water Coffee is 98% water. Chlorine and mineral imbalances directly affect flavor — filtered water makes an immediate difference.
